Thursday was a blur! Leni and I alternated between helping cats spill their water and letting them out of their kennels (accidentally!) What a time we had – we felt like we were brand new volunteers with all the funny stuff that happened. Anyway… on to Friday!
In the cattery we had 13 kittens – 6 black and 7 black and white (tuxedos). What a sight to see all that black along one wall. Poor Rasheen just doesn’t fit in! But, some kittens were coming back from surgery today, so maybe we got some other colors in after I left. The 3 kittens in the boutique need to be put in there just for some diversity.
Tia and Roger were still in surgery but I bet they will go fast and I hope they go together. They are both pure white cats and very sweet. They had fleas and had no problem with me combing them. I got a bunch of fleas and flea dirt and extra fur off them. I know they will have had the flea treatment after surgery, so I bet they will be much happier kitties. They are hard to see in the white kennel on the white towel!
Next door to them are Iago and Abu. Poor Abu is very shy and sticks right by Iago’s side. They have a sign that they need to go together and they really do. Little Abu would be lost without Iago.
Skittles is in Karen’s office and is much more confidant and much more friendly. She still has some of her old Skittle swats, but she hasn’t tried to bite me and I’ve been in petting her twice. On Friday Karen was off, so Skittles said that she was in charge and she would make the decisions!
Joey is in the cabana and is still hiding out in the litter box, but he comes right out when you call him. He went in there Thursday morning and is still adjusting. Abbie seems to ignore him, but Chloe is a bit wary of him. Of course she is wary of everything! He hasn’t nipped, growled or even looked grumpy since he got in the cabana. He just couldn’t handle being in the slammer! Stir crazy!
Martin (Marty?), Marvin and Ann Marie are out sick – a new bout of URI is going around so we really have to be vigilant with customers. I try and explain to each of them how easily a cold is spread among the cats.
Jackie is filling in as Mouth of the South! If she doesn’t get the proper amount of attention, she makes sure that everybody knows it! Of course it was very slow on Friday and I was working alone, so I was the only one to know it. She did have first crack at the play pen though and had a good time.
Hudson got the second turn. That is one of the sweetest, friendliest cats I have ever seen. He lets you hold him any old way and just purrs up a storm. He loves the play pen, but he loves the trip there and back even more! His behind didn’t look too bad today – they had put some more Balmex on it. Poor guy – it will really take someone willing to go the extra mile to adopt him. He is such an affectionate cat, but someone will have to be willing to accept his poor hygiene. Hopefully someone is out there who understands and loves Manxes.
Rasheen was the third cat of the day to stretch his legs in the play pen and it took him a while to get comfortable. I bet his second trip there he will be racing around. He is a nice guy.
Shy Boots was behind his curtain, but when I poked my head in his kennel and called to him down the hole, he came up for a good petting.
Miss Crystal is a joy. She is so affectionate and LOVES to be petted. And petted and petted! She and Jasper are tied for wanting the most petting. Jasper is so cute, when his door is open and I am petting him, he drapes his front paws over the edge of the kennel and just purrs and purrs. Then when I stop, he meows! He and Toby were having a great time playing with their toys – Jasper had a mouse and Toby had a fish. They would play with them and knock them out of the door. I’d pick them back up and after a few minutes, back out they were.
Laith is a kitten that was misidentified as Faith – he is a guy, not a girl, so his name was changed. As of Friday morning, he still had a pink card with ‘F’ circled and Faith on it – just a heads up.
My former foster Elvis is just the sweetest! He loves to be held upside down like a baby – will just lie there and look at you with those cute little eyes! He was playing with the kitten that was reflected in the back acrylic wall of his kennel this afternoon. Very cute!
Janice has really come into her own since Daphne was adopted. I think that Daphne was the most rambunctious of the bunch and now Elvis and Janice are fighting over the title. I got an email from the man who adopted their mom, Jackie (tuxedo Jackie, not tabby Jackie) and her new name is Princess and she is loving him and vice versa. Yayyy! Love those good adoptions.
Speaking of which, or rather, the opposite, Chris was headed over to AC&C to pick up Buttons and Butterball! They were adopted over the holidays and the staff chipped in to pay the adoption fee and then their adopters turned them in to AC&C! Fortunately they scanned them and the chip showed that they came from JHS originally, so they are coming back to us. I hope they blacklist people like that. Poor Buttons and Butterball – they were such sweeties – I hope they still are.
Ok – all for now – looking forward to hearing about Sat! No adoptions today – one hold, on Annie.
