I got a call on Jan. 6th from Aymie in Foster asking me if I could foster a pregnant kitty. I double checked with Keith (no more replay of Jazmine - when I didn’t check and he was quite put out about it.) I brought Destiny home on Thurs. Jan 7th and got her settled in. She didn’t like being in the carrier and was quite vocal about it, but once in her room she was very friendly.

I blocked off all the places I didn’t want her to have kittens and set up the closet as a den. I put one bed and some towels in a large cardboard box, with a hole for her to go in and out of and one bed next to it. I covered the closet with a dark green sheet to give her privacy.

The poor baby looked like she had swallowed a cantaloupe! She was absolutely rotund! As I would pet her, it was so cool to lay my hand on her side and feel the babies moving underneath.

She is the messiest cat I have ever had. She kicks litter out of her box for a foot in every direction. She splashes water out of her dish and then lies in it. Finally I put the water dish on a tray to catch the overflow, the litter I sweep up twice a day.

Tues. the 12th, we fed and checked on her before heading out at 9:30 am and then found when we got home at 2 that she had had her kittens. They were still wet from the birth and at first I couldn’t tell if there were 4 or five. She gave low growls whenever I was near the kitten box, so I pretty much left her alone, except for feeding her copious amounts o cat food. She is eating 4 small cans a day and dry food on top of that.

By the third day, she had settled down and wasn’t growling at me any more and didn’t seem to have a problem with me petting the babies. They are a diverse lot; one solid grey, one grey with white feet, one grey tabby with white feet, one black and white, and one brown tabby. The solid grey is by far the largest. Its’ head is half again as big as the other ones, and it has fluffy fur. The grey with white feet is the tiniest, and its’ fur is so silky. The black and white is silky too while the brown tabby is fluffy. I can’t remember what the grey tabby’s fur is like.

Sat. Jan. 16th, I held each kitten briefly and none of them seemed panicky about it and Destiny was calm. I was trying to determine their sex, but they are still too small, I think. I took pictures of each one, thinking that would help, but the camera very irritatingly focused on my shirt in the background instead of the kitten! I think I had it on regular auto focus instead of close up. I may try again tomorrow.
